Abstract:
Modern cities use wastewater treatment processes to purify wastewater before it is discharged into the aquatic environment. Various process steps are required to purify the wastewater to the point where it can be “safely” discharged. Wastewater treatment process typically consists of primary and secondary treatment but can also include, tertiary and potentially quaternary treatment (not yet in legislation), which make the water safe for reuse. Cavitation as one of the advanced oxidation processes is a possible alternative to physical and chemical tertiary treatment steps (i.e. filtration, UV, ozonation, photo-Fenton and chlorination) and potentially in quaternary treatment step.
